What is Wrong with
Halloween?
Compiled by Rev. Brett Castle
- The revitalization that
Satanism and witchcraft, and their obvious association with
Halloween, has caused Christians to think more about how we
should or should not participate.
- In the last few years, we have
seen the evil force grow more bold on this day or night.
- In our country, we have seen
some very evil things take place as near as Mt. Pleasant, TX.
- History traces the Halloween
Celebration back to the ancient religion of the Druids, a
religion so evil that even Rome forbade its practice.
- Superstition linking cats with
reincarnation made them special objects on the "Festival of
Samhain", on the date of October 31st, in our time.
- Samhain means "lord of the
dead". He was nothing more or less than a demon. Some point to
him as Satan. (On this date, he was given special homage or even
worship.)
NOTE: This is where the
emphasis on death comes from on October 31st. (i.e.,
coffins, tombstones, skeletons, ghosts, graveyards, etc)
- Numerous legends surround the
day, but two significant things supposedly occurred:
- The dead were to rise out of
the grave and go around where they used to live to frighten the
living.
- Now, to appease these
wandering spirits, the living offered gifts of fruits and
nuts. (If the spirits were not happy with the gifts they
would kill or even destroy property.)
- This the origin of our
present day "Trick or Treat".
- Let us see that this is a
perversion of the Christian’s belief in the Resurrection.
(We are to receive the glorified body, not the grotesque,
hurtful, ugly ones.)
- This was to be supreme night
of Samhain and his followers.
- This was the celebration of
the beginning of winter and darkness, as daylight grew shorter.
(The hoards of Hell would roam the Earth in wild celebration of
darkness and death.)
- The reason for dressing up was
to masquerade as the demonic hoards and hopefully fit in as
devils, imps, ogres, witches, and other evil forces.
- The question all must ask is
"Should Christians adopt such practices?", "Can we borrow the
pagan customs and superstitions and make them fit into a
Christian lifestyle?"
- The Bible is not silent of
this subject. See Jeremiah 10:2-3, Deuteronomy 18:9, Ephesians
5:11
Halloween Glorifies Satan
- While most of us participate
for fun, be assured Halloween is serious business for Satanists
and the power of evil.
- Think about it, we tell our
children not to have anything to do with devils, witches, and
evil, yet one night a year we dress them up to look like them.
We decorate our homes, schools, businesses, and yes, even our
churches with occult symbols.
- The night of Halloween is said
to be the night the veil separating the living from the dead,
thought by many in the occult, to be at its weakest.
- Those who don’t agree with the
halt of this night we call Halloween must see that last year
even liberal newscasters in many cities warned viewers to guard
their animals.
- Dogs and cats are often found
sacrificed after this night.
- The SPCA will not allow black
cats to be adopted until after Halloween.
- In rural communities it is not
uncommon for farmers to find animals ritualistically slaughtered
on this night.
- While Satanists, witches,
occultists, and even law enforcement are taking Halloween very
seriously, many in the church protest our "spoiling all the fun
for the children."
- In my opinion one of the
biggest dangers is that Halloween treats Occultism as harmless.
- The Bible says, "abstain from
all appearance of evil." (1 Thessalonians 5:22)
- We cannot deny that all
symbols of Halloween are evil.
- Witches, monsters, ogres,
vampires, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, devils, and demons. All point
to evil and darkness.
- Christians are to be followers
of "Light" (Ephesians 5:1)
- If our homes and churches are
dedicated to God and are to glorify Christ, how can we justify
decorating them with occult symbols?
- Let us look at decorations:
- The jack-o-lantern is the
ancient symbol of a "damned soul" with the oil being that of
human skin.
- The black cat has long
been associated with witchcraft and other superstitions.
- Witches and witchcraft are
dominate themes of the holiday but are warned against in the
Bible. (Exodus 22:18, Deuteronomy 18:8-14, Leviticus 18:24-30)
- Even "trick or treat" is a
threat. Look at the vandalism.
- Police officials everywhere
report great increases in such activities on Halloween.
- Hospitals offer free x-rays in
many towns because of the danger of "treated treats"
Some have called me silly or
crazy for refusing to participate in the pagan, hurtful
celebration altogether, but the Word of God speaks to me in
Ephesians 5:8. "for you were sometimes darkness, but now you are
light in the Lord; walk as children of light."
Scriptures that
forbid me to participate in Halloween.
Deuteronomy 18:8-14; Exodus 7:11-12, 22:18; Leviticus 19:26,
31, 20:6, 27; I Chronicles 10:13-14; II Kings 21:5, Isaiah 2:6;
Jeremiah 10:2-3, 27:9-10; Zachariah 10:2; Malachi 3:5; Acts 8:9;
II Corinthians 6:14-17; Ephesians 5:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:5;
